Acoustics

Spaces that sound right

How a space sounds shapes how it feels, and how everyone inside it feels.

01

What is acoustics?

Acoustics is the way sound behaves in a space: how it travels, bounces off surfaces, lingers and fades. Every material, every shape and every surface plays a part.

Hard, smooth finishes such as glass, concrete and stone reflect sound back into the room, while soft, porous and textured materials absorb it. The balance between the two decides whether a room feels calm and clear, or loud and restless.

Good acoustics are rarely noticed. Poor acoustics are noticed by everyone.

You simply hear the person across the table, music sounds warm, and at the end of the day you feel less tired.

02

More important than ever

We have never spent so much of our lives indoors, and we have never been so aware of how our surroundings affect us. Wellness, comfort and calm have moved from the edges of design to its very heart.

Noise is one of the most underestimated sources of stress. It tires us, makes it harder to focus, rest or truly connect, and quietly shapes how we remember a place. That is why acoustics has become a mark of quality: a space that sounds right feels more comfortable, more personal and more luxurious.

03

From hotel to home to office

Whatever the space, the people in it want the same thing: to feel at ease.

  • Hospitality

Restaurants, hotels and bars where guests can talk without raising their voices, linger a little longer and want to come back.

  • Luxury residences

Homes that feel as good as they look, with calm, privacy and a warmth you can hear.

  • Offices

Workplaces where people can focus, collaborate and hold a private conversation, without the constant hum of an open floor.

04

Better sound, a cleaner world

At Norfelt, we believe a beautiful space should never come at the expense of the world outside it. Sustainability guides the materials we select and recommend, from felt made of recycled PET bottles to panels grown from mycelium, natural wool and responsibly sourced wood.

We look for solutions that last, that can be reused or recycled at the end of their life, and that are made with care for people and planet. Because we don’t only want to help the world sound better. We want to help make it cleaner too.

Our approach

Acoustics works best when it is part of the design from the very first sketch, not added once the problems appear. We help architects and designers treat aesthetics and acoustics as one design question, and make smart choices early in the process.
